The 'window period' is the length of time it can take between catching an STI to showing up on a test.

The normal window periods for most common STI's are:

Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea - 2 weeks

HIV & Syphilis - 12 weeks

If you are worried about testing, it is always better to test now and do another test at a later date, this will be discussed by the nurse or doctor that you see.

Following a discussion with the nurse or doctor you will see, you will normally be asked to provide:

-a urine sample or vaginal swab (in some cases, depending on your sexual history, you may need to provide a throat or anal swab)

-blood test for HIV & Syphilis

-blood test for Hepatitis B/C for people in high risk groups

If you have any symptoms, you will require an examination in most cases

We may be able to diagnose some conditions at the the clinics but most tests need to be sent to the laboratory so you may receive results at a later date.
