Everyone has different reactions to finding out they are pregnant, some may be very happy whilst others may feel worried and in shock. Everybody will need time to think and information about what to do next. Making a decision may be easy for some but others may find it really hard.

If you think you might be pregnant but not sure, it is important to take a pregnancy test as soon as possible. You can buy pregnancy tests in pharmacies and supermarkets or you can alternatively go to your GP or to a contraception and sexual health service.

If you are pregnant and less than 24 weeks pregnant there are three options available to you and you have the right to choose any one of them


-Continue with the pregnancy and raise the child

-continue with the pregnancy and place the child for adoption

-end the pregnancy by having an abortion

Abortion is when a pregnancy is ended so that it doesn't result in the birth of a child. Sometimes it is called 'termination of pregnancy'.

Abortion is legal up to 24 weeks of pregnancy but the earlier you contact services, the more choices you have available to you. Most abortion services are paid for by the NHS, it is also possible to refer yourself to a private clinic and pay to have an abortion.
